Our Work

We are a network of Anglicans in North America, established in 1946 to promote liturgical renewal in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada. We also work ecumenically for the renewal of worship
and mission in other churches. We develop and promote church practices joining the mission of the church and the regular gathering of the church community for worship so that liturgy shapes, defines, and empowers mission and mission liturgy.

We are renewing our organization for this generation's new discoveries of the work of God among us gathered and in our glorious and hurting world. We welcome your suggestions about the site, comments, discoveries, or questions. You may e-mail us at : info@associatedparishes.org.

Two ways to stay connected to the work of APLM are our Blog and the Associated Parishes Online Network

Initiatives of APLM

  • APLM played a major role in the reestablishment of the Eucharist’s primacy in worship and parish life amongst North American Anglicans
  • The organization has championed the centrality of baptism as the foundation for Christian ministry and has worked for the restoration of the Catechumenate within the life of the church
  • APLM has been a major advocate of the recovery of a distinctive deaconate in ordained ministry
  • APLM played an important role in the work of General Convention 2006, advancing an agenda based upon the implications of baptism’s centrality in the church’s life, ministry and mission, and responsive to major issues currently facing the Anglican Communion
  • APLM and Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori are jointly sponsoring a national consultation on the implications of baptismal theology as it is envisioned by the Book of Common Prayer (USA) and the Book of Alternative Services (Canada). These gatherings include liturgical scholars and practitioners, bishops, parish clergy and Christian educators representing the diversity of the Church. The aim of the consultation is to provide educational resources to equip people to fully implement in parish and diocesan life the baptismal vision long championed by APLM.
  • The Council of APLM has recently devoted attention to such themes as the implications of Girardian theory for Christian worship and mission; the emerging church phenomenon; liturgy and inculturation.
  • The annual APLM Colloquium has been established at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. This year’s keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Paul Bradshaw.

A New Model of Pursuing Our Ongoing Work
Membership in APLM is no longer motivated by the purpose of securing the organization’s resources. These materials are being made available free of charge to anyone who is interested in making use of them. Instead, supporting members are a critical part of an association working for the renewal of liturgy and mission in faithful witness to Christ and for the life of the world.

The motivation for membership, then, is to participate in a network of individuals and faith communities dedicated to and passionate about liturgy that is vital, transformative, and participative in God’s mission of healing, justice and reconciliation.
